Fascia & Soffit Repair and Replacement

When you think of your property’s exterior, your fascia might not be the first thing that comes to mind. But trust us: it’s just as important as the roof, windows, and walls when it comes to protecting your home or business. These horizontal boards that run along the edge of your roofline play a crucial role in keeping your property safe and looking its best.
Over time, fascias can suffer wear and tear, become outdated, or even face damage from the elements. Fortunately, Mr. Handyman is here to deliver quality and affordable fascia repair in Newtown, PA.

What Is a Fascia and Why Is It Important?

The fascia is a key component of your roof system and serves several important functions:

  • Protection: Fascias protect the roof and the interior of your home by sealing the edge of the roofline to prevent water from getting into your home’s attic and walls.
  • Curb Appeal: Fascias add to the aesthetic appeal of your property. A clean and well-maintained fascia gives your home or building a polished look.
  • Supports Gutters: Fascias hold your gutters in place. If the fascia is weak or damaged, it can affect the stability and function of your gutter system. You’ll end up dealing with issues like water damage or mold.

We did a major renovation to our condo this past year and needed a single contractor with a variety of professional skills to accomplish a wide variety of tasks. We found that in Mr. Handyman that provided an amazing professional talent named Pat, and made it unnecessary to hire multiple vendors. In addition my wife and I are both 80 and handicapped, and needed a contractor who could do what we used to do and cannot now do ourselves. The services provided were: Major repairs and replacement of the shelving in all our closets, hanging heavy paintings original paintings, assembly of new furniture, the cutting and placement of felt underlayment for area rugs on newly installed luxury plank flooring, electrical lighting, installation of handicap support bars and many other tasks that capped off our total renovation project. A single point of services contractor with personnel with multiple skill sets saved time and money. The name Mr. Handyman is a misnomer. It should be "Mr. Multiple Professional Expert".  Their service fills a much needed space in the home services market.

Everything was awesome, Laura the office manager set everything up and managed the work from there, our technician Patrick was very knowledgeable, he worked with great skill and efficiency, he finished three jobs in the time estimated for one of them and the finished work was top notch, he replaced an exterior door, kitchen faucet and mailbox with new post. My wife and I are very pleased and booked Patrick for more work next week.

Common Threats to the Fascia

Although fascias are sturdy and meant to last, they’re constantly exposed to the elements and can be susceptible to several types of damage. Here are some of the most common threats:

  • Fascias are regularly exposed to rain, snow, and ice that can cause wood to rot or paint to peel. If water leaks through damaged fascia boards, it can easily reach the structural parts of your roof, attic, or walls and cause more extensive damage.
  • Fascias can also fall victim to pests like rodents, birds, or insects. Animals can nest in cracks or gaps and their activity can create additional wear on the fascia.
  • It’s not just water. Fascias are exposed to the sun, wind, rain, and even snow year-round. Over time, this exposure causes wood to dry out, crack, or warp.
  • Clogged gutters can cause water to back up and spill over the edge of the fascia. The excess water can damage the fascia and even lead to wood rot if not addressed.

It’s also worth noting that an improper installation can also be a problem. This is why you should leave any fascia replacement or installation to time-tested professionals.

Signs It’s Time to Repair or Replace Your Fascia

Fascias do not get as much attention as other parts of your home, but responsible homeowners will make it a point to inspect these boards. Here’s how to tell if it’s time to take action:

  • If you notice cracks, rot, or holes in the fascia, it’s a clear sign that the material is deteriorating.
  • If the fascia appears to be sagging or has noticeable warps, that’s a sign that it may have been weakened by water damage or age.
  • If you notice water damage in your attic or walls, your fascia could be compromised.
  • If your gutters are loose or have come off entirely, it may be a result of a damaged or deteriorating fascia.
  • If you’ve noticed signs of pests, such as rodents or insects nesting in your fascia, it’s time to have it inspected.

Remember, a quick fascia repair can save you from costly water damage and even premature replacement. Why postpone repairs when a nearby handyman is a call away?
